Newcastle Multiple Birth Club

For over 50 years, the Newcastle Multiple Birth Club (NMBC) has been a beacon of support for families raising twins, triplets, or more in the Hunter region. Established as a volunteer-driven, non-profit organisation, NMBC understands the unique challenges that come with multiple births and works tirelessly to provide practical assistance, community connection, and advocacy for these families.

A Community of Support

Raising multiple children at once can be overwhelming, but NMBC ensures that no family has to go through it alone. The club offers:

  • Peer Support & Connection – Parents can connect with others who understand their journey, sharing advice, experiences, and encouragement.

  • Educational Resources – From premature birth and breastfeeding multiples to in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and special needs support, NMBC provides valuable information to help parents navigate their unique circumstances.

  • Events & Social Gatherings – Family-friendly meet-ups, including playgroups and annual celebrations, foster a strong sense of belonging.

  • Financial Relief Through Second-Hand Goods – The club encourages the exchange of pre-loved baby items, easing the financial strain on families.

Advocating for Families of Multiples

NMBC is not just about providing support—it also works at a national level to advocate for policies that better reflect the realities of multiple birth families. As part of the Australian Multiple Birth Association (AMBA), NMBC is involved in initiatives such as:

  • '1000 Days of Support' – A campaign pushing for better government-funded resources for families in the critical first few years.

  • Parental Leave Reform – Advocating for paid parental leave per baby rather than per birth.

  • In-Home Assistance – Lobbying for greater access to funded domestic support, recognising the increased workload that comes with multiple births.

Volunteers: The Heart of NMBC

As a volunteer-run organisation, NMBC thrives because of the generosity of its members. From organising events to offering direct support to new parents, volunteers make a real impact in the lives of families with multiples. Their dedication helps ensure that no family feels isolated or unsupported in their parenting journey.

Partnering with Firefly Initiative

To further enhance its impact, NMBC has partnered with Firefly Initiative, a platform designed to reward and recognise volunteers. Firefly’s system allows NMBC’s dedicated volunteers to log their hours and receive points, which can be redeemed for discounts and special rewards from participating businesses. This partnership highlights NMBC’s commitment to valuing and celebrating the contributions of its volunteers.

Looking to the Future

With decades of experience and an unwavering dedication to its community, NMBC continues to evolve, offering new resources and forging strong partnerships to better support multiple birth families. Through advocacy, community-building, and volunteer engagement, NMBC ensures that families never have to face the challenges of raising multiples alone.
