Welcome to the Firefly Initiative, North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club! We are thrilled to have such a dedicated and community-focused team join us. Marking their entry in August of this year, the club has quickly become an integral part of our network, with 31 volunteers actively participating and logging a remarkable 351 hours in the Firefly app. Their significant role in promoting beach safety and surf sports is a valuable addition to our collective efforts. Here’s a glimpse into the impactful work they do:
Community-Oriented Programs: The club is engaged in a variety of surf sports, including board, ski, swim, beach, IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat), and nippers programs. These programs not only promote physical fitness and sportsmanship but also contribute to the development of life-saving skills among members of all ages.
Beach Safety and Patrols: Over the past five years, members of North Burleigh SLSC have dedicated over 40,000 hours to patrolling the beach. This commitment has ensured the safety of a recorded 197,574 beachgoers, including locals, interstate visitors, and international tourists, allowing them to enjoy the beach securely.
Rescue and First Aid: The club’s members have performed more than 800 first aid treatments and 6,768 preventative rescue actions. In critical situations, they have conducted 344 life-saving rescues, upholding the club’s mantra of N.O.N.E (Not One Not Ever), ensuring no lives are lost on North Burleigh Beach.
Volunteer Involvement: All the patrolling members of the club are local volunteers. Their efforts are essential to providing the vital life-saving services at the beach. The club acknowledges the importance of these volunteers and their role in the community’s safety and well-being.
