Young individuals face a multitude of challenges, navigating life's complexities and building resilience, something that will become a major support factor. A group of organisations—Big Brother Big Sister, Stride Education, Scouts and Guides Australia, Mentoring Men, and Business of Smiles— all stand out for their dedication to mentorship, each contributing uniquely to shaping brighter futures for teenagers and young adolescents.

Each working in isolation their collaborative effort underscores the profound difference that even a few hours of mentorship each week can make.

Big Brother Big Sister offers one-on-one mentoring that pairs children with adult mentors, fostering bonds that inspire confidence and broadened horizons. This program is a testament to the power of personal connection in unlocking a child's potential.

Stride Education focuses on closing the educational divide, offering programs that support students in overcoming obstacles to achieve academic and personal success. Their work is crucial in providing equitable educational opportunities.

Guides and Scouts Australia play a crucial role in offering young boys and girls guidance, inspiration, and practical skills for personal development and leadership. Leaders serve as positive role models, sharing their knowledge, experiences, and values to help youth navigate life's adventures with confidence and integrity. By fostering mentorship relationships, these organisations instil important values, promotes teamwork, and empowers youth to become capable, compassionate leaders who make a positive difference in society.

Mentoring Men addresses the critical need for mental health support among men of all ages, offering free life mentoring that emphasises emotional well-being and resilience. This initiative shines a light on the importance of mental health care and support.

Business of Smiles is an initiative dedicated to spreading joy through the power of smiles, emphasising the importance of non-verbal communication in supporting mental health. By encouraging men to share smiles and actions, it fosters a sense of community and connection. This approach highlights the collective strength that can emerge from simple gestures of kindness, aiming to improve mental well-being and create a more empathetic society, one smile at a time.

The commitment of volunteers to these programs sparks a ripple effect of positive outcomes, from personal growth and improved academic performance to heightened self-esteem among mentees. These transformative mentoring relationships are powerful, changing lives and fostering hope.

However, the journey is not without its hurdles. The conversation sheds light on the conundrum facing many mentorship programs: the balance between having enough mentors and students while managing the administrative and training aspects efficiently. This challenge underscores the importance of intelligent coordination and the adoption of technology to streamline processes and enhance the effectiveness of these programs.

Our discussion transcends the immediate concerns, venturing into the realm of future possibilities and the role of technology in facilitating collaboration and coordination. The concept of "Collaborate and Prosper" emerges as a guiding principle, advocating for a unified approach, where organisations can leverage their strengths and resources for a common purpose. This vision contrasts with the "Divide and Conquer" mentality, which often leads to fragmentation and inefficiency within the philanthropic sector.

The narrative extends an invitation to consider the broader implications of collaboration, especially in the context of technological advancements such as blockchain, through the use of Dectralised autonomy and AI. These tools offer unprecedented opportunities for enhancing coordination and delivering more targeted support to the youth we aim to serve.

This is a national and global issue and as a contributor to recognising the efforts of volunteers across the planet we hope these conversations spark a call to action for National and Peak bodies to assess how the next 5 years looks and whether alignment would make the daily grind that little bit easier.

By showcasing the work of these amazing contributors to our young people and wider populations, we aim to inspire a movement towards greater collaboration and innovation in the service of our future generations. There is opportunity for connection in these examples across the spectrum and we need to start putting people with passion in the same room to reduce the non passionate tasks of admin, fundraising and government support.

As we look to the future, it is clear that the challenges of tech weakness and uncertainty around the future can only be addressed through collective action and smart collaboration. This article serves as a conversation  starter on discussing and embracing the potential of unified efforts to make a significant difference in the lives of young, disadvantaged individuals.

The collective vision of these organisations, bolstered by the dedication of countless volunteers, provides so much opportunity and we are starting a conversation to identify the parts where collaboration can shine.

The philosophy that "the sum of the parts is greater than the whole" propels our mission forward, advocating for collaboration over competition. In uniting our efforts, we build a stronger, more resilient foundation for the leaders of tomorrow.

In closing, we extend our deepest gratitude to these organisations for their unwavering commitment and invite others to consider how they, too, can contribute to this noble cause. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter future, where every young person has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. Maybe a great conversation piece for our National conference, where we promise lunch will be served on tables and will be in a building nearby
