Making a Difference Together
Our Journey to date
At the FIREFLY INITIATIVE, we believe that every act of volunteering contributes to a larger ripple effect of positive change. Our community's dedication and hard work are transforming lives and uplifting communities around the world. Here are some key stats showcasing the impact we've made together:
Courtney presented Darryl with a concept of being able to record Social Impact.
Based on the Australian and Global Government introduction of the Renewable Energy Credit (Certificates), Courtney suggested that Volunteers and their contribution to community outcomes would be the easiest way of recording accurate Social Impact

BRAND AND MISSION DESCISION
JAN 2022
After many hours of conversation, debate, illustrations, logo designs and methodologies regarding what to call the mission we finalised on our first brand iteration - ZEROMINUS
From a full commercial work up of Zerominus, we made the decision that maybe the brand was too ideolistic. We discussed the implication of good branding and that we should have a brand that is instantly identifieable with our target audience and mission.
We wanted a brand that didn't need a whole heap of secondary explanation, and we wanted to make sure after understanding the size and makeup of the Volunteer Sector that our brand resonated with each member of this vast community.
The Firefly Story.
As long term volunteers, and with even longer family traditions in volunteers the founders discussed at length what was it that volunteers unlike of the members of the community bring.
It was unanimous that Light was what volunteers bring.
So we started tossing around ideas of what else brings light or creates light.
During one of our development sessions, Firefly's came up.
So after a little be of research we soon discovered some really interesting facts about the little Firefly.
The first thing we learned is that the Firefly is not actually a fly, it's a beetle.
The second and most amazing thing was, that the firefly creates its own light, however, when you get more than one firefly together with other fireflys they all glow brighter.
That for us sealed the deal.
Firefly's were just light volunteers. They bring light to the community, but when you get more volunteers together, the community, organisations and causes they are working for all shine brighter.
We also learned that like all beetles they have a hard protective shell, this is called the Elytra. It protects their delicate wings.
Kind of light what our Not for Profit organisations do. They look after the volunteers, they protect the causes they are working towards and give stablity to each volunteering effort.
The Birth of the FIREFLY INITIATIVE
JUNE 2022
After months of development we were ready to trial our first Beta Test.
We had considered all the things we thought the volunteer community needed and we super excited about how the volunteers and Not for Profit Organisations would receive our idea.
In October we had both the first Organisation and Volunteers join the program and start recording their hours.

NATIONAL LAUNCH
This was a really exciting event in our journey. To build a platform is one thing, the have members of the target audience, our volunteers understand our mission and join the journey is another. But to have the process validated with our first redemption of a JB Hi Fi voucher was fantastic and encourage the Firefly team to work harder, build better and deliver more outcomes for our volunteer audience.

Partnering with the Pegasus Leisure Group, MRC, The Brook and Point Cook Hotels program successfully funds 15 Local NFP Organisations with $65,000 of Social Impact Sponsorship via a 21 day qualification process.
The outcome of this trial was significant in our Proof of Concept as we say a major increase in organisations joining the program, a significant increase in volunteers recording their time and undeniable proof that the Not for Profit sector not only needed assistance in fundraising but showed their appreciation

Having the opportunity to participate in a Start Up Bootcamp was too good to pass up and this stage in our development.
Without a great deal of anticipation of making final selection we decided at worst in would be a valuable learning experience.
We submitted the best application we could and we abolutely beside ourselves as we tuned in for the announcement of the top 10 placements for the SBC Startup Bootcamp in 2024.
Again, given the strong competition and the amazing innovation displayed by all the start ups, we didn't really consider that we would make the cut. Especially when you consider we were up against over 1,000 other applications from all over the world.
To our surprise, joy and enthusiasm we qualified as the second best applicant and had received our invitation to participate.
We grew fast, we learned even faster in this super dynamic hyper charged 12 week program, that has a single goal, to get you market ready in 12 weeks.
We made it and finished that part of our journey by presenting our business model at the World Series of Sports Tech in Brisbane.
